Arch Pain and Arch Strain

Arch Pain/Arch Strain is a quite common type of foot pain. Arch pain is often experienced as a burning sensation in the arch or also as a tightness of the arch musles and ligaments.

Arch Pain/Strain is usally worse when getting out of bed up in the morning with your first steps. Plus, after long walks or prolonged standing.

Arch Pain/Strain occurring first in the morning is due to the fact that the band of ligaments under the foot (the Plantar Fascia) tighten and shorten during the night.

After getting up in the morning with your first steps the plantar fascia are still tight and prone to irritation when stretched suddenly..

Causes of Arch Pain/Arch Strain

There are a number of factors that may cause arch pain, for example an injury to the foot. However, most commonly the cause is "Plantar Fasciitis" - Latin for inflammation of the Plantar Fascia.

The Plantar Fascia is a broad band of fibrous tissue running along the bottom surface of the foot from the heel to the forefoot. Excessive stretching of the Plantar Fascia - due to over-pronation (fallen arches) - is the cause of the inflammation and irritation.

"Plantar Fasciitis" not only causes pain in the arches, but more often in the heel area. If left untreated and the excessive strain on the longitudinal arch continues, a sharp, bony growth may develop. This is known as a heel spur. Therefore it is important to treat "Plantar Fasciitis" before it gets worse.

Treatment and relief of Arch Pain

Arch Pain and Arch Strain can be treated easily with a foot orthotic. combined with some simple stretching exercises. This is essentially the same treatment regime as recommende for the treatment of heel pain and heel spurs.

Footlogics podiatry-devloped orthotic insoles help prevent over-pronation and support the arches. They release the tension on the Plantar Fascia, thereby treating the cause of arch pain and arch strain.

Stretching of the Achilles Tendon, calf muscles and hamstrings creates more muscle flexibility and avoids excess strain on the Plantar Fascia. The hamstrings, calf muscles, Achilles Tendon and Plantar Fascia all work together during gait and tightness in one area can cause problems in another...

Footlogics orthotic insoles are a simple, easy, inexpensive solution to arch pain. The unique combination of support and cushioning often provides instant relief to arch pain.
